Design and Production, Crafting technology
SHAPESHIFT is a festival exploring the intersection of technology, creativity, and humanity. The festival invites participants to reimagine the future and challenge the boundaries of the present.
The theme of SHAPESHIFT 2024, Is it Too Much to Dream of Utopia?, examined utopia as both an elusive fantasy and a blueprint for a better world.
Inspired by it, we created Shapeshift—an interactive installation that explored the transformative power of technology. Spanning 10 by 3 meters, it allowed visitors to engage directly with the digital environment, leaving temporary imprints as they created their own art.
At its center, a star represented each visitor's personal utopia. This symbol served as both a focal point of the installation and a key element of the festival’s 2024 visual identity.
Technical Overview
Shapeshift used a Kinect sensor and TouchDesigner software to track real-time visitor movements. Human silhouettes left temporary marks on a dynamic, interactive background composed of particles. The visuals evolved as visitors continued to interact, creating a shared, ever-changing environment.
The installation emphasized that transformation is in our hands, illustrating the power we all have to influence our environment and thus — our present and future.
